ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born on July 2 1989 (Alex Morgan age: 30) to Pamela and Michael Morgan. They raised her and her two sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan played a variety of sports throughout her childhood but did not play soccer until she was 14. She became a member of the Cypress Elite club team, winning the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship and finishing in third place in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to improve her skills in soccer at Diamond Bar High School. National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) chose her as an All-American Athlete. She also played in the Olympic Development Division's regional and state divisions. Morgan continued her career in soccer at UC Berkeley. She led the California Golden Bears team's scoring in her first season. She led the team to the NCAA Tournament in four years, and two times to the second round. Morgan was one of the four finalists for the Honda Sports Award. She also became the first Hermann Trophy finalist from her school. Upon graduating a semester before the end of the year in 2010, Morgan was ranked third in all-time goals and points for Berkeley. Morgan was able manage soccer careers at the national and college levels during her education. Morgan suffered an ACL injury in her very first year as an Berkeley player. She was unable train for the U.S. Under-20 Women's Soccer team until April. Following that she scored her first international goal at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship in Mexico. Morgan was also a participant in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Her team earned an Olympic gold medal. She also made her debut international goal during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Tournament in Mexico. One of these was the win goal in the match against Italy, which earned the U.S. a place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player of the team and played a key role in helping in the victory over France. Although the U.S. ultimately lost to Japan, Morgan became the first player in history to score a goal and an assist during a final World Cup game.
