Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25, 1994 born on May 25, 1994, is an American retired artistic gymnast. She was also two-time Olympian. She was the captain of both the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams. Both were winners in their respective team competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London she was awarded gold medals in floor and team competitions, along with the bronze medal on the balance beam, which made her the most well-known American gymnast at the Games. In the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she took home a gold in the team competition as well as her co-teammate Gabby Douglas the only Americans who won back-to-back gold team medals. Raisman won silver medals for the individual all-around and floor exercise. Raisman has silver medals from the individual all-around, and also for the floor exercise. She has also been two-time champion in the national championships on floor exercise (2012 2012, 2015) and the 2012 champion of the national team on balance beam and five times medalist in the all-around event at the national championships (silver in 2016, bronze in 2011 and 2012, and in 2015). She was inducted into The International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was born on May 25, 1994, in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), an ex-high school gymnast and Rick Raisman. She has three younger sisters: Madison, Chloe, & Brett. Raisman is Jewish and claims that "I really enjoy having the opportunity to not only represent the U.S.A but also the Jewish community everywhere." Raisman began gymnastics at age eighteen months. She attributes her initial love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold-medal-winning U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics, whose performances she was able to watch on VHS.She took classes at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through Level 8 when she moved to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School in 2012, after completing her senior year with online classes while training for the Olympics.
