Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig, May 16 1937 - - August 17, 2015. Craig was an American actress and ballet-dancer famous for her portrayals as Batgirl on the 1960s ' television series Batman and Marta as Marta, the Orion slave girl Marta, in Star Trek's episode "Whom Gods Deceive" (1969). The Huffington Post referred to her as "a pioneer of female super heroes" on television. Yvonne Craig was raised in Columbus and was born in Taylorville in Illinois. Her family moved to Dallas in 1951. She attended W. H. Adamson High School, Sunset High School, and later W. H. Adamson High School. However, she did not graduate due to the fact that she was not awarded "one PE credit". Craig was found by Alexandra Danilova (a ballerina and teacher) and was accepted into the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and became its youngest member of the corps de ballet. When she was playing Batgirl and was a Batgirl, the lessons proved very beneficial. In 1957, she quit the company's ballet program due to a dispute regarding casting changes. Then, she moved to Los Angeles with the hope of continuing her dancing career. But, she found herself in film roles. One of her first television performances was in the TV series Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover") in 1958 with Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later was the Batgirl's stepfather, police Commissioner James Gordon. In the following years, she was in three films, including The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story The Gene Krupa Story, and Gidget (all 1959)--and also guest-starred in the TV series Mr. Lucky as Beverly Mills in the episode "Little Miss Wow" (also 1959). Craig was seen in the films Bing Crosby and Seven Women from Hell (1960), where she was paired alongside Cesar Romero. In 1962, she was guest-starring in Western Laramie's "The Long Road Back" episode. Craig also appeared with Bing Crosby on High Time (1960) and Seven Women from Hell (1961) as well as Seven Women from Hell (1961), both which included Cesar Romero. Craig also starred in two Elvis Presley films: It Happened in the World's Fair (1963), as well as Kissin' Cousins (1964). She also starred in the science fiction film Mars Needs Women (1966) as well as in In Like Flint (1967) as the role of a Russian ballet dancer opposite James Coburn.
