Amy Carlson
Amy Carlson was raised in Glen Ellyn
(Illinois) and was a part of her early years living in Chicago. But when Amy
was in high school her family also lived in the Middle East where her parents,
Bob and Barb, taught at the American School. Amy has three siblings: sisters
Betsy and Lori and Joe, the brother. Joe. Amy has traveled across Europe on her
own and with her family. They were both teachers and were able to travel and
camp with each other every summer due to this. They've camped across every state,
with the exception of Alaska. Amy was in Rwanda in 1994 following the war to
aid in relief efforts. Early on, Amy showed artistic talent performing in
school productions and winning contests to write. She was a talented athlete at
high school and took part in the first ever 3200-meter relay in Illinois girls
track. In college, after an accident, she returned to the theater , playing a
variety of roles on stage beginning with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of
July" as well as directing Wallace Shawn's "Aunt Dan and Lemon".
Amy was an Knox College student from Galesburg, Illinois. She graduated with an
B.A. in East Asian history and a concentration in Theater. She relocated to
Chicago immediately following her graduation, where she studied Improv at the
Improv Olympic, and performed in the theater at The Actor's Center. A contract
job on the now defunct soap opera Another World (1964) moved her to NYC right
after graduating. She has been nominated for an Daytime Emmy Award in the
category of "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama
Series". Her most memorable roles include those played by strong women,
like Alex Taylor in Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone ((2000)), Katie Owen and
Tom Berenger in Peacemakers(2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods(2003). Carlson
currently resides in New York City together with Syd Butler (bassist of Les
Savy Fav), and is owner of Frenchkiss Records. Amy continues to pursue her
passions on film and writing.
